Up to 300 protestors formed a symbolic siege around Dublin’s Israeli embassy Wednesday, calling for the immediate expulsion of Israeli ambassador Boaz Modai, the Belfast-based News Letter reported on Thursday.
At the demonstration, Gaza Action Ireland member Trevor Hogan accused the embassy of being “the source of a string of shameful lies... lies about Palestine, lies about the siege of Gaza and lies about Irish activists,” according to the News Letter.
“While Israel maintains its violent, murderous siege on Gaza, we should keep coming back for peaceful, symbolic ones here, until the ambassador is told to pack his bags and leave Ireland,” added Hogan, a former rugby international.
The protestors spread out around the perimeter of the office block housing the embassy, which is located in south Dublin. Fatin Al-Tamimi, who has many relatives in Gaza, read out the names of the dead.
The protest is the latest in a series involving the Israeli embassy in Dublin. Thousands of protesters marched to the embassy on Saturday, calling for "freedom and justice in Palestine," the Irish Times reported over the weekend.
That demonstration, organized by the Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign, was the fifth such march to take place this summer, according to the Irish Times.
