Veterans Retreating From Obama

The nation’s veterans are retreating from President Barack Obama, according to recent poll results.

Even as the president leads in such battleground states as Colorado, Florida, Ohio and Virginia, GOP challenger Mitt Romney is up by double digits among veterans in those states, Politico reports.

Nationwide, the former Massachusetts governor has 20 point lead over Obama – and he has even overtaken the president with younger veterans.

“It’s no contest,” Maurice Tamman, a Reuters data news editor, told Politico. He has surveyed veterans and their views of this year’s presidential campaign.

The Obama campaign had been hoping that veterans and their families, particularly among the post-Sept. 11 generation that served in Iraq and Afghanistan, would be part of their path to victory, Politico reports.

They’re a high turn-out demographic and are concentrated in battleground states.

Nearly 1 million veterans live each in North Carolina, Ohio and Virginia, and 1.6 million in Florida, Politico reports.

The campaign had hoped to connect with these voters by touting the killing of Osama bin Laden, ending Iraq combat operations and winding down the war in Afghanistan, Politico reports.
