Savage to Newsmax: I Wish Romney Would Show Some Spine Read more on Newsmax.com: Savage to Newsmax: I Wish Romney Would Show Some Spine Important: D

Talk radio host Michael Savage tells Newsmax he wishes Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney would “show some spine” and talk about big ideas for America.

“I wish Romney would show some spine and some backbone and talk about America’s greatness and America’s wonders. I don’t hear that. All I hear is a technocrat talking how he is going to tweak this or tweak that,” Savage said in an exclusive interview with Newsmax.TV discussing his new book, “Trickle Down Tyranny: Crushing Obama’s Dream of the Socialist States of America.”

Savage also blasted President Barack Obama’s use of executive power and called it “worrisome.” Savage said two of the most problematic examples of Obama’s pervasive use of executive power are the signing of the Defense Authorization Act of 2012 and the killing of American-born al-Qaida operative Anwar al-Awlaki.

Story continues below video.

“On New Year’s Eve while people were partying, the president signed the Defense Authorization Act, which to this day, no one knows whether it gives the president the authority to arrest people without a trial,” Savage said.

Referring to the killing of al-Awlaki, he said: “Who’s next? This is a very dangerous precedent.

“I opposed it when it occurred. We all know Anwar al-Awlaki was a dangerous man. He deserved to be rounded up and tried. But he didn’t deserve to be whacked like we have a mafia running the country. It’s very worrisome indeed.

Savage wrote in his book, which hits stores on Tuesday, that the next president must be the “exact opposite of Barack Obama” to put America back on track, but he believes that none of the remaining GOP presidential candidates fills that bill.

Yet Savage said he would still support Romney if Romney wins the GOP nomination and faces Obama in the general election.

“Will I vote for Romney personally? I certainly would,” he said. “On the issue of national security alone, I would sleep better at night. On the issue of how he would deal with Islamic terrorism, I would sleep better at night. On the issue of lowering corporate and individual income taxes, I would sleep better at night. Those reasons alone are enough for me to vote for Mitt Romney.”

When asked who would be the ideal GOP candidate, Savage didn’t hesitate.

“Donald Trump. I love Donald Trump’s politics,” he said, citing Trump’s tough stance on U.S.-China trade relations as the reason why.

“I called for tariffs on China two years ago in my book ‘Trickle Up Poverty.’ I said we should call for a 20 percent tax on Chinese-made goods.

“Donald Trump said the same thing about a year and a half ago. He still believes that we have to impose tariffs on China or we are going to wind up with nothing manufactured in this country.”
