Wasserman Schultz Aide Apologizes for Anti-Jewish Slur

A part-time aide to Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz has apologized for posting a photo captioned with an anti-Semitic slur on her Facebook page in 2006.

“I apologize for any harm postings on my Facebook page made years ago may have caused anyone. I meant no offense,” Dani Gilbert said in a statement.

The photo, which has been removed, captured some of Gilbert’s friends clowning around, holding up money, and referring to themselves as “Jewbags,” according to news reports.

The young woman, according to Politico, serves as a liaison to the Jewish community on behalf of the DNC. She is the daughter of two of President Barack Obama’s biggest fundraisers in Florida, Mark and Nancy Gilbert, who have raised more than $500,000 for his re-election campaign, Politico reported Friday.

DNC spokesman Brad Woodhouse defended Gilbert, telling Politico she “has excelled in her role handling Jewish issues.”

“No smear driven by the right wing noise machine is going to impact her status as a trusted member of this team,” he added.
